Health Entry Requirements for Tanzania
Updated for 2025 – For travellers visiting Tanzania and Zanzibar
- Required if arriving from or transiting through a country where yellow fever is endemic, including layovers where you disembark.
- Travellers must carry an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP, Yellow Card).
- Not required for direct arrivals from countries without yellow fever risk.
- Medical exemptions are accepted if vaccination is contraindicated.
Although not mandatory, the following vaccinations are recommended:
• Hepatitis A – For food and water safety.
• Typhoid – For protection against contaminated food and water.
• Polio – Adult booster may be recommended.
• Hepatitis B – Especially for extended stays or medical work.
• Rabies – For high-risk activities or remote travel.
• Meningitis – Depending on the season and location.
• Routine vaccinations – MMR, Tdap, Influenza, COVID‑19.
- Malaria risk is present throughout Tanzania, including Zanzibar, below 1,800 m elevation.
- Strongly recommended to take antimalarial medication.
- Use mosquito repellent, wear protective clothing, and sleep under treated mosquito nets.
