Yellow Fever Vaccination
Requirements for Tanzania & Zanzibar
- Required if you are arriving from or have transited through a country with risk of yellow fever transmission.
- Applies if you leave the airport during a layover in a yellow fever risk country.
- You must show an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP), often called the Yellow Card, on arrival.
- If travelling directly to Tanzania from countries without yellow fever risk (e.g., the UK, most of Europe, USA, Canada, Australia, UAE, Qatar).
- If only transiting through a yellow fever risk country without leaving the airport.
- If vaccination is not safe for you (due to age, pregnancy, or medical conditions), you can carry a medical waiver letter from a doctor.
- Acceptance of waivers is at the discretion of port health officials, so always confirm with your travel clinic before travelling.
- A single dose offers lifelong protection.
- Must be given at least 10 days before travel to be valid.
- Available from travel clinics, some GP surgeries, and specialist vaccination centres.
- Always check vaccine availability in advance, as stocks can be limited.
- Regulations can change quickly — check with your nearest Tanzanian embassy, your airline, or an official travel health clinic before departure.
